The iPhone is the iconic smartphone device and the 4 follows nicely in the line up. Anyone could pick it up and be tapping away in seconds. The ease of use is what I think is the strongest benefit of this device.
The size of the screen is almost a pro and a con, the fact that it's not 4.3" makes for a smaller device to tote around. The double edged sword comes if you like a big screen.

Integration with other Apple products
App Market has unprecedented amount of secure apps
iOS5 has enabled many nice features that were previously only Android features (OTA updates, notification dropdown, multiple email editing etc.)
Retina Display screen surpasses others with higher resolution.

Cons:
Does not hold up to being dropped. Front glass broke the first time it dropped 3 feet to the ground.
Back is glass so it too has the potential for breakage.
